Idyllwild Arts Academy
A vascular surgeon with offices in four California cities (Idyllwild Arts Academy Class of 1989). An award-winning environmental scientist-activist (Class of ’92). A prolific inventor (Class of ’94). A dynamic immigration lawyer (Class of ’02). A Silicon Valley high-tech executive (Class of ‘03). Even a planner of high-end weddings whose work “requires” her to scout out the glamorous destinations chosen by her clients (Class of ’02). They all share with many successful professional artists the distinction of having graduated from Idyllwild Arts Academy.
Idyllwild Arts is an internationally acclaimed boarding high school (9th-12th; PG) that provides intensive, specialized arts training and challenging college-prep academics to young people from dozens of different countries. On a breathtaking 205-acre campus in the pine and cedar forests of the San Jacinto Mountains, two hours by car from Los Angeles and San Diego, each student can choose to specialize in Music, Visual Arts, Theatre, Dance, Creative Writing, Film & Digital Media, Fashion Design, or Interdisciplinary Arts. In addition, through innovative collaboration between the Academy’s academic teachers and its arts faculty of working professional artists, Idyllwild Arts students acquire the skills and confidence to succeed in any field.
The uniqueness of the Idyllwild Arts education arises from a conviction that the best art is made by people who are well informed about the world. We offer first-class academics because we think the best education happens when imagination is valued and where creativity is recognized as a path to open-minded thinking and critical analysis. Idyllwild Arts students grow to understand that creative passion enriches our lives wherever we live them: in dialogue with fellow artists, with a patient, in the courtroom, in government service. . . or in the deceptively simple interaction with one’s children.
And education at Idyllwild Arts does not end when Academy students scatter at the end of May to their homes around the world. For decades, the Idyllwild Arts Summer Program has offered immersive arts experiences that have persuaded countless aspiring artists that the unforgettable beauty of an Idyllwild summer can be a year-round experience.
Art in Society
The Art in Society program gives Academy students opportunities to direct their artistic talents toward pressing social concerns. Whether the problem is global in scope or merely of local concern, Academy students learn that artists can be--and should be--part of the solution.
Arts Enterprise Laboratory
Idyllwild Arts believes that no other high school in the United States offers a program like Arts Enterprise Laboratory (AEL). AEL grants financial assistance to students who wish to offer special arts presentations that could never be produced without such grants.
